, she was napping on her living room couch when a space rock weighing approximately 4 kg (9 lbs.) crashed through the roof of her house. It bounced off her large console

, which it destroyed, and struck her on the arm and hip. She suffered a bad bruise but escaped permanent injury. She donated the sulfide meteorite to the
Alabama Museum of Natural History
at the
University of Alabama
, where it is on display.
