Ann Elizabeth Hodges of Sylacauga, Alabama is the only person of record to have been hit by a meteorite. On November 30, 1954, she was napping on her living room couch when a space rock weighing approximately 4 kg (9 lbs.) crashed through the roof of her house. It bounced off her large console radio, which it destroyed, and struck her on the arm and hip. She suffered a bad bruise but escaped permanent injury. She donated the sulfide meteorite to the Alabama Museum of Natural History at the University of Alabama, where it is on display.
