Angeln

Angeln (Angelen) is a peninsula in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, protruding into the Baltic Sea. It is separated from the peninsula of Schwansen by the Schlei inlet, and from the Danish island of Als by the Flensburger Frde ("firth of Flensburg"). The region is believed by many to be the area the Angles left when migrating to Britain in the 5th-6th centuries. The word in itself means "angle" as in angling for fish. Derivatives from the name and peoples of Angeln are Angler (fisher) and Angle-land (England).
