Angel MelendezAndre Melendez (born c. 1963, dead c. 1995), better known as Angel Melendez, was a Colombian drug dealer who did business in New York, New York. Melendez and his family arrived in New York when Melendez was eight years old. Andre Melendez had dreams of becoming a famous Hollywood actor or writer, and he would tell anyone within ear sound about how big he wanted to be and how much money he was going to make. Unfortunately for young Angel, his dream of becoming a Hollywood star fell apart, but he was still hungry for money. He became a small, street drug dealer during the early and middle 1980s, after he met Peter Gatien, owner of the Limelight Club, in New York. Gatien was an alleged drug dealer, and Melendez became one of his dealers. Melendez went from being a small time dealer into becoming one of the biggest dealers on the streets after he met Michael Alig, the famed founder of the Club Kids and the Disco 2000 party groups. While most of the Club Kids members were either bisexual or homosexual, it is unlikely that Melendez was homosexual himself because he never showed any attraction towards men. Nevertheless, he befriended Alig, who became his number one customer. Melendez also began to hang out with the likes of James St. James and DJ Keoki. Alig's drug problem became so big that he owed Melendez an amount of money he probably would not have been able to pay. One night, Melendez came to pick up the money owed to him by Alig, and Alig and a couple of other friends murdered Melendez, hitting him with various, blunt objects. Soon after, Melendez's body was found floating along a river, with several body parts missing. In December, 1996, Alig was sentenced to twenty years in prison for Melendez's murder. Alig's murder of Angel Melendez is documented in the novel Disco Bloodbath. written by James St. James, chronicling the life of Michael Alig and his Club Kids of the New York City club scene. A documentary titled Party Monster in 1998 was based off of the events leading up to and surrounding the murder, and a film by the same name was released in 2004 which starred Macaulay Caulkin and Seth Green.
