Andres NocioniAndres Nocioni (born November 30, 1979) is an Argentine basketball player who plays with the NBA's Chicago Bulls. Nocioni, who is 6'7 (79 inches tall), is a forward with the Bulls. He began to play professionally in the Argentine basketball league (LBN) in 1998, shortly after he had turned 18. In 1999, he joined the Argentine national basketball league. That same year, the Argentine national team won the silver medal at the South American basketball championship tournament. Nocioni earned fame in his country, as he went on to be considered by many Argentine basketball fans to be one of the best basketball players there. In 2002, Nocioni was part of the team that made basketball history, when the Argentine national team became the first team to beat the until then universally feared, American Dream Team at the World Championships of Basketball, held that year in Indianapolis, Indiana. His team once again earned the silver medal, losing to Yugoslavia for the gold medal. In 2003, Nocioni was signed by a European team. He spent the next two seasons as a "refuerzo" (Spanish word that is used on all Hispanic FIBA leagues and that loosely translates to "refill" in English) with Spain's Tau Ceramica Baskonia Vitoria, a team that plays in the ACB professional league. In 2004, Nocioni once again participated in a history making Argentine national basketball team, as the Argentines became the first Hispanic national team in Olympic basketball history (and the third team ever, after the United States and Russia's national teams) to win an Olympic gold medal. Nocioni was subsequently signed by the Bulls. He joined the NBA during the era when the NBA had the most Hispanics ever participating at the same time in the league. Nocioni joined Puerto Rico's players Carlos Arroyo and Daniel Santiago, Brazil's Leandro Barbosa, Mexico's Eduardo Najera, Hispanic-American Gilbert Arenas and his countrymen, Emanuel Ginobili and Carlos Delfino, as NBA players. He and Ginobili are friends. Averaging seven points, four rebounds and one assist per game, Nocioni has helped the Bulls fight for their first playoff spot since 1998, year in which the Bulls won their sixth title, with Michael Jordan as the team's captain and Scottie Pippen as the team's second leader.
