) is the second Dutch
astronaut
(the first one being
Wubbo Ockels
) to engage on a space flight, on April 18, 2004. Using the
Soyuz spacecraft
Soyuz TMA-4
,
Gennady Padalka
from Russia,
Michael Fincke
from the
USA
and Kuipers flew to the
International Space Station
. Kuipers returned to earth 9 days later together with ISS crew 8 with the
Soyuz TMA-3
. The other two will stay as ISS crew 9. The Soyuz TMA-4 will also stay.
