Amoeba Distributed Operating SystemThe Amoeba distributed operating system is a microkernel-based research operating system written by Andrew S. Tanenbaum at Vrije Universiteit. The aim of the project was to build a timesharing system that appeared to the user as a single machine even though it was running on multiple machines. Development seems to have stalled: the files in the latest version (5.3) were last modified on the 12th of February 2001. The Python programming language was originally developed for this platform.
