Amherstview, Ontario

Amherstview is an unincorporated town in the province of Ontario, located just west of Collins Bay. It has a population of approximately 6,000 and is essentially a suburb of the city of Kingston. Amherstview is named for Amherst Island, an island located directly to the south in Lake Ontario. The town lies near the eastern end of the Loyalist Parkway, a stretch of Highway 33 that travels along Lake Ontario, in an area in which many United Empire Loyalists settled. While Collins Bay has been part of Kingston since the city limits were stretched eastward and westward to the Frontenac County line on Jan 1, 1998, Amherstview is technically located in an adjacent county - Loyalist Twp, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario - and therefore is not officially part of the city of Kingston. Amherstview is separated from Collins Bay by Coronation Boulevard, a small west-end residential street.
