Alien Vs. Predator (Arcade Game)

The Alien Vs. Predator arcade game was released in 1994 by Capcom. The game is built around the side-scrolling fighting model Capcom used for Final Fight and similar games. The players can choose between playing one of two androids, either Lt. Linn Kurosawa or Maj. D. Schaefer, as well as being able to play one of two Predator types, either warrior or hunter. The game is almost comical in it's depiction of the fight against the Aliens, as the heroes cut through droves of xenomorphs in hand-to-hand combat. The plotline revolves around a xenomorph hive taking over a major city on Earth. The Predators ally themselves with the humans temporarily to destroy the alien hive so that the hunting grounds of Earth are not despoiled by them. In the process of destroying the Alien Queen, they discover that the infamous Wayland-Yutani Corporation accidentally released the xenomorphs, which they were cultivating as a bio-war agent. The game introduces various new types of xenomorphs, with such names as Stalker, Chrysalis, Bull and Arachnid. However, whether these are included in the Aliens canon is dubious at best. The events of the arcade game are never referenced elsewhere in the Aliens franchise. However, some of the events and characters within are very similar to those in the first two Aliens graphic novels (Earth Hive and Nightmare Asylum, respectively).
