Algonquin, MarylandAlgonquin is a census-designated place located in Dorchester County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,361. Geography Algonquin is located at 38°35'4" North, 76°5'48" West (38.584385, -76.096703). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²). 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 65.71% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,361 people, 582 households, and 426 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 491.1/km² (1,275.4/mi²). There are 606 housing units at an average density of 218.7/km² (567.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.77% White, 1.76% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 1.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 582 households out of which 24.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% are non-families. 23.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.71. In the CDP the population is spread out with 18.7% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 30.6% from 45 to 64, and 24.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 85.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.9 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $56,250, and the median income for a family is $61,750. Males have a median income of $31,625 versus $30,850 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $28,483. 2.2% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
