Alessandra Mussolini

Alessandra Mussolini (born December 30, 1962) is a Member of the European Parliament and the daughter of Sophia Loren's younger sister and Romano Mussolini, the third son of "Il Duce", fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.

Career

Besides being an actress, her early career involved some topless modelling which included Playboy http://www.leisure.scotsman.com/families/headlines_specific.cfm?articleid=6061. In 1992, she earned a degree in Medicine and Surgery and rocketed to fame when she was elected to parliament in a Naples constituency for the Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI), which was two years before Silvio Berlusconis first centre-right government came to power as a after of the destruction of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC) as the biggest Italian party. The MSI dissolved in 1995 and formed the Alleanza Nazionale (AN) together with the former DC. On 28 November 2003 she resigned from the party, though retaining her seat in the parliament, when she considered that AN party leader and deputy prime minister Gianfranco Fini "dishonoured her family's history" when he described fascism as "an absolute evil" when apologising in Israel for Italy's actions before and during the Second World War. She went on to found the Libert dAzione (Freedom of Action LdA) which later joined Alternativa Sociale, a newly created coalition which was also joined Roberto Fiores Forza Nuova and Adriano Tilghers Fronte Sociale Nazionale to run for the European Parliament election of June 2004. The coalition won 1.2 percent of the vote and earned one seat for Mussolini. In March 2005, Mussolini was banned by a local court from regional elections held the following month for presenting fraudulent signatures (Reuters, BBC). "This is an affront to democracy, if they're going to exclude the Social Alternative they have to exclude all the parties, because all the signature lists are false," Mussolini told Reuters. However, at the end of the month the Italian government annulled the court's decision, and she will stand for election.
