Alap

The alap (pronounced ah-laap) is the introductory section of any Hindustani music performance. Its length may vary from a few seconds to many hours depending upon the ability of the artist. It may be based on the raga of the song which is going to be sung. The various kinds of alap are:
  • Anakshar alap
  • Sakshar alap
