Air Supremacy

Air supremacy is defined in the NATO Glossary as "That degree of air superiority wherein the opposing air force is incapable of effective interference." It is a description of the military environment as to the level of control a force has for air operations.
  • High control / little interference - Air superiority
  • Absolute control / no interference - Air supremacy
As air power has become an increasingly powerful element of military campaigns, increasingly military planners view having at least an environment of air superiority as a necessity.
