Ai Iijima

Ai Iijima (Iijima Ai, 飯島愛, birth name Ishii Mitsuko, 石井光子) (born 31 October 1972) is a Japanese media personality. In her late teens, she appeared on late night television as a "T-back girl," or girls wearing skimpy thongs (whence the "T") alone (sometimes topless) or under short skirts. Her stage name was chosen as a result of a fan survey. She later became an adult video star and finally crossed over into mainstream television variety shows, the only tarento so far to successfully make such a transition. She is now an established tarento on Japanese television, appearing in travel, lifestyle, and quiz shows. In 2000 she published Platonic Sex, a semi-autobiographical novel about a young girl leaving home to escape her parents and ending up as an adult movie star. The book was turned into a television series and a theatrical movie. Regarding her date of birth, the story goes that it was summer when she made her Culture of Japan debut, and she thought her 15 minutes would be up by the time her real birthday rolled aorund, so she said her birthday was August 25, because that way she could at least get presents for her birthday. As it turns out, of course, her fifteen minutes has lasted a lot longer than one summer.
