Adipic Acid

Adipic acid, (E-number E205) is a white crystalline powder appearing as an acid in aqueous circumstances, though it is not highly soluble. It is prepared from various fats using oxidation and is used to make lubricant components. As a food additive it is a gelling aid. When polycondensed with hexamethylene diamine, adipic acid forms 6,6-nylon, the most common form of nylon.
