Adephaga is the second largest suborder in the Coleoptera order. Among its species are wrinkled bark beetles and ground beetles. Adult adephagans are distinguished by visible notopleural sutures and having the first visible abdominal sternite divided by the hind coxae. The phylogeny of the group is controversial and various arrangements of the 8 families have been proposed.
