Acland Street, MelbourneAcland Street is a culturally diverse street in St Kilda, Melbourne, which has gained popularity as a living and dining address in the 1980s and 1990s. It is a premiere gathering place for teenagers and also adults, especially on Saturday nights. The section of Acland Street between Barkly Street and Carlisle Street is a tram zone where route 96 terminates. Tram route 16 runs through the intersection of Acland Street and Carlisle Street. Heading east it runs all the way along Carlisle Street, and along Balaclava Road, (the continuation of Carlisle Street) until it turns north and heads through Caulfield, Malvern, Hawthorn East, and finally Kew. Heading north-west it runs past the upper St Kilda Esplanade, through Fitzroy Street, and finally towards the Melbourne CBD (Central Business District) a few kilometres away. There is also the 606 and 623 bus routes, and a limited amount of parking where the shopping centers are. Restaurants in Acland Street include Sheherezade, Monarch and Greasy Joe's. Notably also is the hugely popular bar, The Vineyard. Almost next door is one of Melbourne's most popular gelati stores, Seven Apples. There are also many other pubs, cafes and bars of note. Right near the junction of Carlisle Street and Acland Street is Luna Park. It is one of Melbourne's most famous amusement parks, and attracts large crowds regularly. Almost next door is one of Melbourne's oldest still-standing theatres, The Palais. St Kilda is located on Port Phillip bay.
