Episode synopsis

SG-1 arrives on Abydos. Kasuf has asked for their help investigating a strange incident. A wind blew out of an active stargate and a mysterious voice was heard calling Sha're's name. Kasuf leads them to the place where the voice was heard. Major Carter's instruments report a buildup of static electricity. A mysterious voice calls out Daniel. A wind starts to buildup into a tornado. Doctor Jackson identifies himself and the wind disappears, leaving a young boy standing on the sand. The boy is Shifu, the harcesis. Being a harcesis, Shifu has the genetic memory of all the Goa'uld that came before passed down from his parents, Apophis and Amonet. He says that Oma Desala on Kheb taught him how to forget this knowledge. The boy is much older than when he was last seen as a newborn. He may have been altered to mature faster than normal. SG-1 take Shifu to Earth. Dr. Fraiser does her usual tests on Shifu and discovers traces of nanites in his system, but they are shut down. Since the treaty between the Tauri and the Tok'ra states that they must share all potential sources of information related to the Goa'uld, the Tok'ra were told of Shifu. They send word back that they plan to use a memory recall device to gain access to his memories. Dr. Jackson talks to Shifu about Sha're. He tells him of the time Amonet was trying to kill Jackson and Sha're passed a message to him throught the ribbon device. Shifu says that dreams can teach. Jackson asks Shifu about his Goa'uld memories. Shifu tells him that Oma says the evil is too strong to fight, the only way to win is to deny it battle. Jackson asks him to remember. Shifu places Jackson into a sort of dream-state. . . Jackson awakens with the Goa'uld knowledge in his head. He begins making plans for a device Carter doesn't even understand completely. They show the plans to General Hammond. It is a sort of satellite that is capable of detecting approaching Goa'uld vessels thousands of light years away. Jackson begins to have strange flashes of himself doing things he has not done. The weapons on the satellite can penetrate shields and destroy mothership. They are the perfect basis for an anti-Goa'uld defense system. They will need help building the satellites. Jackson doesn't want the Tok'ra involved because they've had spy problems before. They need to build a network of these satellites and launch them into orbit. If there were Tok'ra spies they could attract the attention of the Goa'uld before the system got working. Shifu now does not have to remember anything. Hammond says he will talk to the Pentagon about getting more personnel. Later there is a full meeting with Major Davis from the Pentagon. Jackson's plan requires that the entire SGC stop what they are doing and go to raw naquadah retrival. Jackson demands that the Russians be kept in the dark, altough this also violates a treaty agreement. An estimated $80 billon over two years to complete the system. Jackson says it will be done in one year, even though it doubles the cost. His plan calls for contracting work out in a strategic division of labor to maintain security. He then supplies Major Davis with a list of his personal requirements. Colonel O'Neill goes to talk to Jackson after the meeting. O'Neill has been put in charge of the retrival operations, it was either that or retire again. Jackson has sent Teal'c offworld somewhere on a mission he will not talk to anyone about. It is now one year later. Jackson wakes up in a huge house, apparently his. Carter tries to get in to talk to him, but he sends her away. Shifu is also in the house with Jackson. Carter gets through security and confronts Jackson, claiming to know his plan. She is no longer with the project. She says the strategic division of labor was an effort to keep anyone from catching on to the big picture. Jackson has her jailed. O'Neill goes to see Carter. They talk about Jackson, and something that happened to Teal'c that he may have caused. There was no proof however. O'Neill decides to go talk to Jackson, who has been watching Carter and O'Neill. O'Neill arrives at Jackson's compound the day of the launch. Jackson invites O'Neill to watch. He takes him to a hidden set of transportation rings concealed in the floor of the house and linking to an underground conrol room. Carter thinks Jackson is trying to take over the world. A go for the launch is announced. There are 24 delivery systems launching at the same time, each with 12 AG3 satellites to disperse in orbit. They launch and disperse perfectly. Jackson says that now that a defense against the Goa'uld is in place, the President will be going public with the stargate. A newscaster on TV says the President's announcement has been postponed due to an international crisis. America's launch of the "weather" satellites has put Russian and Chinese forces on high alert. The Russians reposition an anti-satellite weapon and prepare to take a shot at an AG3. Jackson advises the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to make a demonstration by taking out a Russian satellite with the AG3 system. They authorize this, but it only causes the Russians to launch more anti-satellite weapons. Jackson hits a button on his chair and suddenly has complete control over the AG3 system. He targets Moscow. O'Neill tries to stop Jackson, but he has a Goa'uld force shield in place which stops the bullets. Moscow is hit by the AG3s and is wiped completely off the face of Earth. Back at the SGC outside of the dream, Jackson is the infirmiry. Fraiser says she has no idea what is wrong with him. The rest of SG-1, Hammond and the Tok'ra Aldwim are discussing what to do with Shifu. Aldwin suggests using a zatarc detector to test Shifu, as the device was originally a truth-detector. Shifu is placed into the zatarc detector. Aldwin starts to question him. It is determined that he is harcesis. He says he is teaching Jackson. The true nature of a man is determined by the battle between his conscious mind and his subconscious. The evil in Shifu's subconscious, the Goa'uld genetic memory, is too strong to resist. Jackson has awakened and comes into the room. The only way to win is to deny it battle. It is now time for Shifu to go. He thanks Jackson, turns into a white light and heads for the stargate. The gate opens on its own before he gets there. Hammond orders all personnel to stand down and allow Shifu to pass. Shifu disappears into the stargate.
