Abraham AckerAbraham Acker, colonial American, son of a famous Colonial American and father of a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War. Biography The youngest of three sons of Wolfert Acker (1667-1753) and Maretje Sibouts, and brother to Steven Acker and Syboat Acker, from his line comes the Sleepy Hollow's Acker family connection to the Katriena of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. His parents' marriage took place on Dec. 20, 1692 and he was born in the famous house his father had built called "Wolfert's Roost" in what is now Irvington, New York, Westchester, New York in 1703. He died and was burried in Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow (Tarrytown, New York's Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow. In 1725 he followed his father's footsteps and became the Collector of Phillipseburgh. Abraham Acker married Margrietje Montrose on June 15, 1728 and had two sons: Abraham Ecker (1729-?) and Wolfert Ecker (1730-1799). There is a slight possibility they had a third son, Jan Ecker, (who married Rachel Duythser on Sept 28, 1758 (p171 Church Records of Old Dutch Church), though this young man might have been the offspring of Steven Acker's son Wolfert Acker (Wolfert Acker, son of Steven) and his wife Ametie Drow) Legacy Through Abraham Ecker is the connection with Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the eventual loss of "Wolfert's Roost" and Wolfert Ecker is the American REvolutionary War patriot, who moves the family to Marlborough, New York after the death of his first wife, Susannah Requa. His son Abraham Ecker (son of Abraham Acker and Margrietje Montrose) according to the local marriage records from the 3 volume Tarrytown Library's Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow Records (onp 168), he (now Abraham Ecker) married as a young man the young woman, Amiatie Lent on March 23, 1753 (or at least that was the date teh marriage was recorded...though the church records did not record for date consistency.) She must have soon died for on page 170 Abraham Ecker married "Marretie, widow of Abraham Conklin, born in Courtland" on September 13, 1753. This Marretie of Courtland must have been Margrietje Montrose Burial Location Abraham is said to be burried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery near the Old Dutch Church, but no grave survives. Acker, Abraham
