A Star Is Born (1937)

A Star Is Born is the title of a 1937 dramatic film. It tells the story of a small-town girl, Esther Blodgett (Janet Gaynor), who comes to Hollywood to become a star. She meets and marries the alcoholic Norman Maine (Fredric March), but, as her star rises, his collapses, and so does their marriage. It also stars Adolphe Menjou, May Robson, Andy Devine, Lionel Stander and Peggy Wood. The film has a huge writers' list: William A. Wellman (story) and Robert Carson (story), Dorothy Parker (screenplay) & Alan Campbell (screenplay) & Robert Carson (screenplay), Ben Hecht (contributing writer) (uncredited), Ring Lardner Jr. (contributing writer) (uncredited), John Lee Mahin (contributing writer) (uncredited), Budd Schulberg (contributing writer) (uncredited) and David O. Selznick (contributing writer) (uncredited). It was directed by Jack Conway (uncredited) and William A. Wellman. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Robert Carson and William A. Wellman won the Oscar for Best Writing. Star Is Born
