yu jin

Yu Jin (于禁 not to be confused with Yue Jin) was a general in Cao Cao's army during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China. He joined during the early years of Cao Cao's rise to fame. He was known as one of the five Wei generals that included Zhang Liao, Yue Jin, Zhang He, Xu Huang. During the battle of Fan Castle against Guan Yu. His jelousy for the success of the younger general Pang De meant he called a retreat in the heat of battle, untimatly leading to the armies failure as they were flooded out. He was captured and pleaded for his life, and after imprisonment for a period of time he was released back to Wei upon Wu's victory over Guan Yu. When he returned, Cao Pi consoled him and bade him pay his respects at Cao Cao's tomb. On the walls were depictions of the battle and Yu Jin's surrender; thus, he collapsed and died of, arguably, remorse, shortly after. Despite his downfall in the last few years of his life, Yu Jin was a remarkable man of valor in Cao Cao's army who served long and loyally, earning his place among his top five generals. His career was marked with success stories and he was one of the most disciplined and, consequently, respected men of Wei up until his demise.
