Yeshe Tsogyal

A legendary semi-historical figure who lived from CE 757 to CE 817, Yeshe Tsogyal (Tibetan, "Ocean of Wisdom"), or Lady Tsogyal, is considered to be the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. As a young girl, she is supposed to have prayed for the happiness of all sentient beings. At the age of sixteen, she was initiated into Buddhism by Guru Padmasambhava and achieved enlightenment. She then became a bodhisattva, working for the enlightenment of others.
