Yamashiro Province

Yamashiro province (山城国; -no kuni) is an old province of Japan, which today composes the southern part of Kyoto prefecture. Including Kyoto itself, since 794 Yamashiro was the seat of the imperial court, and, during the Muromachi period, the seat of the shogun as well.
