Yael Dayan

Yael Dayan (born December 2, 1939) is an Israeli writer and political figure.

Career

Yael Dayan is the daughter of Moshe Dayan, who is considered one of the fathers of the Israeli state. Like her father, Yael Dayan is considered something of a political renegade. She first made a name for herself as an author and newspaper columnist. She has published five novels as well as a memoir of the Six Day War called Israel Journal: June 1967 and a biography of her father called My Father, His Daughter. In 1992, Dayan was elected to the Israeli Knesset one the Labour Party list, and was re-elected in 1996 and 1999. Although Dayan did not run in the 2003 parliamentary elections, she is expected to run in 2005 on the Yahad Party list. In her time as a public servant, Dayan has been an advocate for both women's rights and gay rights, and has been a harsh critic of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories.

Personal information

Yael Dayan had two children (Dan and Rachel) with her late husband, Dov Sion. She studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at Open University of Israel. She speaks English, Spanish, French, and Greek.
