Xing Streamworks

Xing Streamworks was the first viable software solution for transmitting live audio over the public (non-M-BONE) Internet. It was released in July 1995, and its first customer was maverick FM station KPIG in Freedom, Ca (near Santa Cruz). Streamworks might have caught on more widely if it weren't for the introduction 2 months later (Sept. 1995) of a live-broadcast version of RealAudio, a technically-inferior but better-marketed product. Xing Technologies was eventually purchased by Real Networks.
