WrzeszczWrzeszcz (pronounced: ['vʒεʃʧ]) is one of the quarters of the city of Gdansk. Traditionally the shipyard workers part, connected to the main city of Gdansk by 4 lane Inner Highway (Grunwaldzka street). It is the most populous part of the city. The population of Wrzeszcz is 65,427 inhabitants on area of 9.9 km (population density 6,622). In Wrzeszcz are located Gdansk University of Technology (Politechnika Gdańska), Baltic Opera. The city is the main scene of the German author Gnter Grass's first two novels "The Tin Drum" (1963) and "Dog Years" (1965), which are set before World War II, when the municipality was called Langfuhr, its German name.
