Wonky TechnoWonky techno is a relatively new term for a style of techno music that is based around breaking from a formulaic 4-4 beat structure and experimenting with different styles and techniques. The sound is often distorted, stuttering, broken and warped, with a lot of influence from breakbeat and electro. At one end of the scale it can be very funky music well-suited to the dancefloor; at the other end it can be highly abstract to the point of near randomness. The term wonky techno itself originates from wonky DJ Jerome Hill who whilst manager of London record shop Access All Areas collected tunes of this type in a section marked "Wonky". The scene itself is still fairly small but growing; nights such as Uglyfunk in the UK are gaining in popularity. Producers of the wonky sound are people like Si Begg, Crystal Distortion, Edit, Mark Hawkins, Cristian Vogel, Neil Landstrumm, Dave Tarrida and Subhead and some of the labels include Mosquito, Sativae, , Uglyfunk, Mental.Ind and Novamute.
