Wittenberg (District)Wittenberg is a district (Kreis) in the east of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from west clockwise) Bitterfeld, the district-free city Dessau, Anhalt-Zerbst, the districts Potsdam-Mittelmark, Teltow-Flming and Elbe-Elster in Brandenburg, and the districts Torgau-Oschatz und Delitzsch in Saxony. History In 1994 the district was merged with the district Jessen and a small part of the district Grfenhainichen. Geography The main rivers in the district are the Elbe and its tributary, the Schwarze Elster. Coat of arms | Coat of arms | |The coat of arms show two swords, which is the symbol of a Fieldmarshall in the Holy Roman Empire. The counts of Saxony were appointed with this title, and therefore added the symbol to their coat of arms.
