Wimbledon StationWimbledon station is a large train station in the south-west of London, next to Wimbledon's Centre Court Shopping Centre. It is currently served by the London Underground's sub-surface District Line, South West Trains (Stagecoach), Thameslink (Govia), limited South Central Trains (Govia), and Tramlink, all of which arrive at surface-level platforms. The station is in Travelcard Zone 3. From Wimbledon services to Central London, west London, the City and Midlands can be obtained traveling northbound. Southbound trains provide services to the South West (Bournemouth, etc.); other south-bound services can shuttle you to Sutton. There used to be a rail line from Wimbledon to West Croydon; this line was taken over during the construction of Tramlink and converted to light rail. In the past this station was also able to provide services to Tooting Junction station via Merton Abbey station, another way to get into the City. If or when Crossrail 2 is built, one of the route options involves taking over the Wimbledon branch of the District Line as far as Parsons Green, and routeing trains via Chelsea, London and central London to Hackney and on to Leytonstone tube station and beyond.
