Wilsonville, Oregon

Wilsonville is a city located in Clackamas County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 13,991.

Geography

  is located at 45°18'24" North, 122°45'59" West (45.306805, -122.766420). 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.9 km² (6.9 mi²). 17.4 km² (6.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.75% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 13,991 people, 5,937 households, and 3,775 families residing in the city. The population density is 805.1/km² (2,085.3/mi²). There are 6,407 housing units at an average density of 368.7/km² (954.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.45% White, 0.66% African American, 0.70% Native American, 2.22% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 3.15% from other races, and 2.65% from two or more races. 6.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 5,937 households out of which 30.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 8.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.89. In the city the population is spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.7 males. The median income for a household in the city is $52,515, and the median income for a family is $65,172. Males have a median income of $43,480 versus $28,395 for females. The per capita income for the city is $29,786. 5.6% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.7% of those under the age of 18 and 8.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Trivia

  • The son of Daniel Boone, Jesse Boone settled in what would later become Wilsonville, and started built a ferry crossing there. Jessie was killed in a dispute over grazing rights.
  • In protest of the construction of the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, specifically the effect of the prison on property values, a property owner began erecting school buses on his property. The buses had a worse effect on property values then the prison did.
