astronomer
. He was director of
Lick Observatory
from
1900
to
1930
. He specialized in
spectroscopy
. He won the
Henry Draper Medal
and the
Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society
in
1906
, as well as the
Bruce Medal
in
1915
.
Craters
on
Mars
and the
Moon
are named after him, as is the
asteroid
2751 Campbell
.
