William Phillips

) was an Artilleryman and General Officer in the
British Army
who served as a Major General in the
American Revolutionary War
. Captured at
Saratoga
in
1777
, he was a part of the
Convention Army
until he was exchanged for American General
Benjamin Lincoln
in
1780
. He died of
typhus
on
May 13
, 1781 at
Petersburg, Virginia
