William C. Lee

William C. Lee (March 12, 1895 - June 25, 1948) was born in Dunn, North Carolina. Major General William Carey Lee is often refered to as The 'Father' of the United States Airborne. Lee served in WWI and by the time the United States entered WWII, Lee had been promoted to general and placed in command of the 101st Airborne Division. On August 19, 1942, Maj. Gen. William C. Lee, promised his new recruits that the 101st has no history, but it has a "Rendezvous with destiny."
