Wildhaus

village

resort
for summer and winter vacations in the
Canton of St. Gallen
,
Switzerland
. The village is located on a
pass
(1090 m) from
Gams
, in the
Rhine
valley, to
Unterwasser
in
Toggenburg
between the
Churfirsten
peaks and
Sntis
. The
municipality
with an area of
34.43 km²
had a population of 1258
as of 31. December 2003
. The
ski
slopes above Wildhaus, Unterwasser and
Alt St. Johann
on the Churfirsten ranges reach 2262 m. The reformer
Huldrych Zwingli
was born in Wildhaus in
1484
. His birth house can still be visited.
