During World War II, an American General with full knowledge of the coming D-Day landing in Normandy falls into German hands after his plane is shot down. A special team of commandos, led by Major John Smith (Richard Burton) and Lieutenant Morris Schaffer (Clint Eastwood) is assembled to invade the castle where the General is held and rescue him.
