WheeltransWheelTrans is a specialized accessible transit service provided by the Toronto Transit Commission within the City of Toronto. Service is provided by accessible buses and contracted accessible taxi mini-vans. is a door-to-door service. Rides are reserved one day in advance, by calling the Reservation Line, or using the automated Ride-Line touch-tone phone service. Service Information Hours of Service Wheel-Trans operates every day of the year. Service hours are weekdays 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., weekends and holidays 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Service Area Wheel-Trans operates within the City of Toronto with connections to services in adjacent municipalities. Wheel-Trans also provides service to Lester B. Pearson International Airport. Applying for Wheel-Trans service The TTC has established eligibility guidelines for service, based upon an individual's level of physical functional mobility in the home, within the area immediately surrounding the home, in the community at large, as well as permanency of disability. Eligibility is not based on particular disabilities, general health or income. All Wheel-Trans applicants, regardless of mobility status, are required to attend an in-person interview in order to determine eligibility. Temporary or Permanent Registration Most people who are eligible for Wheel-Trans are given permanent registration for Wheel-Trans service. Others who may only need the service for a short duration are given temporary registration (i.e. those who require service for a period of rehabilitation after an accident which resulted in severely restricted physical functional mobility). If so, the registration card will have an expiration date. Tourists and Wheel-Trans Tourists with disabilities who visit Toronto may use Wheel-Trans service for a two week period per year. Tourists must be registered with the specialized transit where they live (i.e. wheelchair and scooter users). Using the Wheel-Trans Service There are three types of trip booking services: Advance Reservations Rides may be booked by calling Advance Reservations one day in advance. For example, call on Monday for a ride on Tuesday. Prebook Reservations Prebook Service is available for Customers who travel to the same destination every week, at the same times, for a minimum of four consecutive weeks. This service offers pre-scheduled rides for Customers taking the same trips on a regular basis and eliminates the need to call Reservations for each ride. YRides can be booked for a minimum of four weeks with just one call. Standby/Sameday Reservations Open weekdays 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., weekends and holidays 6:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Standby Service may be available for those who were unable to plan thier trip in advance or could not be accommodated by Advance Reservations. Travelling with an Escort Weekdays, Monday to Friday, each Wheel-Trans Registrant can be accompanied by one escort. Additional escorts are permitted on weekends and statutory holidays. Escorts do not have to be registered with Wheel-Trans but must pay the appropriate fare. Fares Fares for using WheelTrans are the same as the TTC fares, which are as follows: Cash(as of March 6/05) - Adults: $2.50
- Students/Seniors: $1.70
- Children: $0.60
Students require a TTC Student Discount card for reduced fare, seniors require proof of age such as a driver's licence. Other Payment Methods Tickets, tokens, and Metropasses can also be used, and can be purchased at any TTC Subway station, or at stores displaying the TTC TICKET AGENT sign.
