Wayzata is a city located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,113.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.4 km² (3.2 mi²). 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.55% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 4,113 people, 1,929 households, and 1,041 families residing in the city. The population density is 499.4/km² (1,292.6/mi²). There are 2,047 housing units at an average density of 248.5/km² (643.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.11% White, 0.41% African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.34% Asian, 0.19% Pacific Islander, 0.75% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 1.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,929 households out of which 20.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.0% are non-families. 39.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.06 and the average family size is 2.77. In the city the population is spread out with 19.3% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 20.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 88.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.6 males.
