Waynesville, Ohio

Waynesville is a village located in Wayne Township, Warren County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,558, up from 1,949 in 1990. It is named for General "Mad" Anthony Wayne.

Geography

Waynesville is located at 39°31'55" North, 84°5'11" West (39.532037, -84.086460). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²). 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.99% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,558 people, 1,005 households, and 721 families residing in the village. The population density is 435.1/km² (1,124.8/mi²). There are 1,037 housing units at an average density of 176.4/km² (456.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.32% White, 0.08% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. 0.74% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,005 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.6% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% are non-families. 24.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.04. In the village the population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.5 males. The median income for a household in the village is $50,202, and the median income for a family is $56,538. Males have a median income of $41,932 versus $31,207 for females. The per capita income for the village is $24,539. 3.9% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.3% of those under the age of 18 and 5.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. All of the village is in the Wayne Local School District. It is served by the Waynesville telephone exchange and the Waynesville post office.
