Washington Township, Macomb County, MichiganWashington Township is a township located in Macomb County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 19,080. Washington is a small unincorporated community in the south central portion of the township just east of Michigan State Highway 53 at 4243'28" north latitude, 8302'10" west longitude. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 95.3 km² (36.8 mi²). 93.1 km² (36.0 mi²) of it is land and 2.2 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.34% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 19,080 people, 6,991 households, and 5,383 families residing in the township. The population density is 204.9/km² (530.7/mi²). There are 7,317 housing units at an average density of 78.6/km² (203.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.23% White, 0.49% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.58% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. 2.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,991 households out of which 36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.5% are married couples living together, 7.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.0% are non-families. 19.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.14. In the township the population is spread out with 26.6% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.7 males. The median income for a household in the township is $68,841, and the median income for a family is $78,988. Males have a median income of $60,721 versus $31,213 for females. The per capita income for the township is $30,740. 3.7% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.0% of those under the age of 18 and 2.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
