Warrenville, IllinoisWarrenville is a city located in DuPage County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 13,363. Situated about forty miles west of Chicago, Warrenville was a farming community until suburban expansion caused a housing boom in the '70s and '80s. There is an "old neighborhood," south, with mixed housing styles. There is a Forest Preserve neighborhood, east, with wooded-lot expensive multi-acre homes close to Cantigny War Museum, Cantigny Golf Course and Makee Marsh. There is a generic, "cookie-cutter" subdivision, west, with winding streets next to Fermilab (world's largest superconducting particle accelerator ring). There is also a booming retail development area called "Cantera" to the southeast. Warrenville is mostly dotted with a few strip malls, large forest preserves and small businesses. In stark contrast, the busy Cantera development sits on a southeastern "wing" of land that protrudes into neighboring Winfield and Naperville. There is an AMC 30 movie theater, several restaurants, a health club, shopping and hotels situated in this half square mile. Geography Warrenville is located at 41°49'35" North, 88°11'22" West (41.826280, -88.189465). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.6 km² (5.6 mi²). 14.2 km² (5.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.14% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 13,363 people, 4,931 households, and 3,476 families residing in the city. The population density is 938.1/km² (2,430.6/mi²). There are 5,067 housing units at an average density of 355.7/km² (921.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.13% White, 2.39% African American, 0.29% Native American, 3.43% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.46% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. 10.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,931 households out of which 39.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.26. In the city the population is spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 36.1% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 6.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $62,430, and the median income for a family is $72,233. Males have a median income of $50,144 versus $35,487 for females. The per capita income for the city is $28,922. 1.6% of the population and 0.9% of families are below the poverty line.
