Vttern
Lake Vttern
Vttern is the second largest lake (by surface area) in Sweden, after lake Vnern. The lake's total surface area is 1 912 km², the deepest point is 128 m, and the average depth is 39 m. If measured by volume of water, rather than by surface area, it's the largest. The name Vttern comes from "vatten", the Swedish word for water. In the north there is a scenic but not mountainous inland fjord, Alsen. Situated in Gtaland it is drained by Motala strm, starting at Motala, into the Baltic Sea. The lake includes the scenic island of Visings, located outside Grnna. Other towns on the lake include Vadstena, Jnkping, Hjo, Askersund, mmeberg and Karlsborg. It is bounded by the Provinces of Westrogothia, Nericia, Ostrogothia and Smalandia. See also: Mlaren, Lakes in Sweden
