Virtual Season

A virtual season is a collection of fanfiction stories by various authors that continue a cancelled television show. Each story can usually stand on its own, but borrows from canon and previous stories in the season. Some, but not all, virtual seasons introduce new characters who become integral parts of the virtual season's storylines. For some projects, the intended purpose is to depict the adventures of the characters in more desirable directions when the producers in question make artistic decisions that fans disapproved of. The process in which stories for a virtual season are made is much like it is with real television shows. Fans assume the roles of executive producers, editors, and writers all working together to provide fellow fans with an enjoyable end product. Examples of television shows that have virtual seasons or virtual spin-offs based on them include The X-Files, Millennium, , Gargoyles and MacGyver.
