Vila Do Porto Vila do Porto (Portuguese for village of the port) is the main village on the island of Santa Maria and is in the southwestern part, part of the archipelago of the Azores. It is the southernmost and the eastermost municipality in the Azores archipelago. The municipality is encircled with the Atlantic Ocean. The nearest island is So Miguel to the north with the nearest municipality being Povoao. The port serves to the only part of the island, Ponta Delgada. It is located SE of So Miguel and SW of the Formigas Islets. The island has several roads. There is one main road to the northern part and one to the northeastern part of the island. Vila do Porto is located east of Ponta Delgada and Vila Franca do Campo, E of Ribeira Grande and NE of Furnas and is linked with a road connecting Ponta Delgada and Lagoa and west to Ribeira Grande. The parish is the leastly populated in the island. The main source of industry are agriculture and fishing while a small number of businesses are in the downtown area. - Location:
