Vernon L. Smith

Vernon L. Smith is professor of economics and law at George Mason University, a research scholar in the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Science, and a Fellow of the Mercatus Center all in Arlington, Virginia. He was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. He received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Caltech, M.A in economics from the University of Kansas and his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard. He has authored or co-authored over 200 articles and books on capital theory, finance, natural resource economics and experimental economics. Smith received the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economics Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel in 2002. He served as an expert for the Copenhagen Consensus.
