venue (dict)

Venue

A Venue is commonly the scene of an event or action (especially the place of a meeting). In law, it designates the jurisdiction where a trial will be held. The word venue derives from the Latin for to come, and implies a place that people come to. As such, the term is used about as variously as there are activities to meet together for. Generally venues have a specific purpose, though some, such as large stadiums, may be used for a number of different activities. In the music industry, the term is common to refer to concert sites as venues, especially among touring acts. In sport, the term is sometimes used to refer to the building or stadium in which an event takes place, most ubiquitously in the Olympic games.
