Vctor Paz Estenssorongel Vctor Paz Estenssoro (1907 - June 7, 2001) was a politician from Bolivia. He founded the Nationalist Revolutionary Movement (MNR), a centrist party, along with Hernn Siles Zuazo. In April 1952, the MNR led a revolution in Bolivia to put a stop to frequent military coups and dictatorships. Estenssoro became the first President in the new government, serving his first four-year term from 1952 until 1956. He was not allowed to run for another consecutive term, and Siles served as President from 1956 until 1960. Paz was reelected President in 1960. On November 4, 1964, the MNR government was overthrown in a military coup led by Ren Barrientos and Alfredo Ovando Canda. It was not until 1982 that military rule ended. By this time Paz and Siles had split, with Siles supporting more leftist policies. It was Siles who gained power in 1982, but Paz won presidential elections in 1985, and served a third four-year term as President, which ended in 1989.
