Uplandia

Uplandia, or Uppland, is a historical Province or Landskap on the eastern coast of Sweden. It borders to Sudermannia, Westmannia and Gestricia. It is also bounded by lake Mlaren and the Baltic sea.

The population of Uplandia is 1,339,154 as of 2004. It distrubutes over three counties as follows:

For current affairs see: Uppsala County, Stockholm County or Vstmanland County Uplandia is divided upon Uppsala County, which occupies the heartland, the Stockholm County, which has claimed about a third of the territory in the south and the Vstmanland County, taking a quarter in the west.

History

Main article: History of Uplandia The province of Uppland was formed in 1296, by combining the Folklands of Fjrdhundraland, Attundaland, Tiundaland and Roslagen. The Swedish Capital of Stockholm is divided upon two provinces. The southern half lies in Sudermannia and the northern half in Uplandia.

Main article: Geography of Uplandia Uplandia was historically divided into chartered cities and districts. Within Roslagen they were called ship districts, and in the rest of the province hundreds.

While the parish of Sderfors belongs to Uplandia it also formed part of Gestricia Eastern Court District.

Culture

Main article: Culture of Uplandia Uplandia is the seat of the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden. The archaeological site Birka and the castle of Drottningholm are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Heraldry

Main article: Heraldry of Uplandia Arms granted in 1560. Historically Uplandia ranked as a duchy and the coat of arms is represented with a dukal coronet. Blazon: "Gules, a Royal Orb Or gemmed of the field and Azure with the cross bottoned Argent."

Dukes of Uplandia

Since 1772, Swedish Princes have been created Dukes of various provinces. This is solely a nominal title.
