University Of The Air

The University of the Air (放送大学 Hōsō daigaku) is a public distance learning university which has students all over Japan and accepted its first students in 1985. The administration is based at Chiba City although it has offices and learning centers in each prefectures of Japan: fifty in total. It awards undergraduate and graduate degrees. With nearly 100,000 students enrolled (in 2004), it is one the largest academic institution in the nation, and qualifies as one of the world's mega universities. Since it was founded over 780,000 students have studied its courses.
