University Of Idaho

The University of Idaho is a land-grant university formed by the Territorial Legislature of Idaho in 1889, located in Moscow, Idaho. The university opened its doors on October 3, 1892 with an initial class of 40 students. The first graduating class in 1896 contained two men and two women. Today, the university has an enrollment of over 12,000. The university offers 146 degree programs, from agribusiness to zoology, including bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and specialists' degrees. Certificates of completion are offered in 16 areas of study. Colleges include Agricultural and Life Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Law, Letters, Arts & Social Sciences, Natural Resources, and Science.

Athletics

The school's colors are silver and gold. Its sports teams are nicknamed the Vandals, and they participate in the NCAA's Division I, in the Big West Conference for most sports and the Division I-A Sun Belt Conference for football. In 2005, the school will join the Western Athletic Conference for all sports. Idaho has a major rivalry with Washington State University, a school whose campus is located only a few miles to the west. It also has in-state rivalries with Boise State University and Idaho State University. Idaho also plays Montana every year in football, with the winner receiving the "Little Brown Stein." Olympic Bronze medallist in the mens shot put, Joachim B. Olsen competed for the Vandals from 1999 to 2003.
