University College, DurhamUniversity College, commonly known as Castle, is a college of the University of Durham in England. It is the oldest of Durham's colleges, founded in 1832. Since 1837 it has been housed in Durham Castle, which dates from 1097 and is the oldest University building in the world. Castle students eat their meals in the medieval Great Hall, drink in an 11th century bar, and about 100 of them live in rooms in the keep. Home to around 600 undergraduates, Castle is medium-sized compared to Durham's other colleges. It is the most oversubscribed of the colleges by a considerable margin: in recent years there have been approximately fifteen times as many applicants as places.
