Uncle Vanya

Uncle Vanya is a tragicomic play by the Russian writer Anton Chekhov. It was first performed in 1900 under the direction of Stanislavski. Its major characters include Serebrakoff, a retired professor; Helena (or Yelena), his young and beautiful second wife; Sonia, his plain daughter by his first marriage; Ivan Voynitsky ("Uncle Vanya"), Sonia's uncle; and Astroff, a doctor.
